Love-not just a February thing

What do you think of when you think of February?  Besides brrrr cold. Yup you got it! LOVE.  Valentine’s Day.  I seriously love this little holiday. Can I call it a holiday? Or is it just a Hallmark holiday? Whatever it is, I heart it.

From the time Chelsea was little and she was my only valentine, I’ve always had to make it a special day of showing her my love. That tradition continues still till this day with my family! So much fun. Of Course it’s not the only time that we show love to one another, or express our love for each other.

Valentines Day is just a fun day and gives me an excuse to spoil my kiddos some more.  But it got me thinking…

What is LOVE exactly?  We all LOVE our family and friends. That feeling of warmth when we think of them.  But what does it mean to LOVE?  Because sometimes LOVE isn’t easy.  It’s hard work.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

Its so easy to read this verse quickly and have your heart touched by a few words in the verse.  For example, when I read this, the few things that quickly touch my heart is that love always protects and love never fails.  But I wanted to break down each word. So I googled each word.  Wow!!! What an IMPACT!

Love IS

  • PATIENTable to accept or tolerate delays, problems, or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious.
  • KIND- Having or showing a friendly, generous, sympathetic, or warm-hearted nature.
  • Rejoices with the Truth-(Rejoice) feel or show great joy or delight in the (truth) real facts about something or the things that are true.
  • ALWAYS PROTECTS-(Always)Every time on every occasion, without exception (protects)Keeps safe from harm or injury.
  • ALWAYS TRUSTS-(Always)Every time on every occasion without exception (trusts)believes firmly in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something.
  • ALWAYS HOPES-(Always)Every time on every occasion without exception (hopes)has a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen.
  • ALWAYS PERSEVERES-(Always)Every time on every occasion without exception (perseveres)continues in a course of action even in the face of difficulty or with little or no prospect of success.

Love IS NOT

  • Does NOT ENVY– Does not Desire to have a quality, possession, or other desirable attribute belonging to someone else.
  • Does NOT BOAST- Does not Talk with excessive pride and self satisfaction about one’s achievements, possessions, or abilities.
  • Is NOT PROUD-Is not Having or showing a high or excessively high opinion of oneself or one’s importance.
  • It Does NOT DISHONOR OTHERS-Does not Bring shame or disgrace on others.
  • Is NOT SELF-SEEKING-Is not self-serving, self-interested, selfish.
  • Is NOT EASILY ANGERED-(easily)Without difficulty or effort, (angered)filled with anger. Synonyms for anger: infuriate, irritate, exasperate, irk, vex.
  • It Keeps No RECORD OF WRONGS-(record) a thing constituting a piece of evidence about the past, especially an account of an act. (wrong)an unjust or dishonest action toward someone.
  • Does NOT DELIGHT in EVIL-Does not (delight)Please someone greatly in (evil)profound immorality, wickedness, and depravity.

LOVE NEVER FAILS – (never)at no time in the past or future on no occasion, not ever. (fails) be unsuccessful in achieving one’s goal or neglect to do something.

Doesn’t this make you want to go and hug your husband and kiddos and say “Thank you for loving me.”?  What a blessing to have the LOVE of someone. Love is not easy sometimes that is for sure.

So fun to celebrate my love on a special day to my husband & kiddos & family, but so very very thankful that the LOVE of my family is present not just that day or month but EVERYDAY all year long.

And so very very thankful for the LOVE of Jesus Christ my Saviour who LOVED me enough to die on the cross for me.

    Koula,
This touched my heart! In life we often forget to stop and really feel what is around us. The love, respect, patience, kind heartedness of those around us. We are really blessed more then we often realize. It is all around us and is what I think keeps us young. Love is such an amazing feeling and helps us feel safe and enriched. Thank you for sharing the love you have in your heart. God bless you my friend.xo

Koula, how sweet, no pun intended. What a beautiful way to spend such an important day!! It’s nice to know that you are appreciated as a mother and wife so much by your family. I used to worry about you living so far from me and your siblings, how you would cope without someone you trust to talk to and such and over the years, I have come to realize, that I did not have to worry about you that much, because you have your own loving family that loves you as dearly as I and your siblings do. Love you and your family very much. Mom
